day 317 – pals cabin

pals cabin

there’s a bit of history behind this photo, so when i drove by it today, i couldn’t help but feel sad. pals cabin has been in west orange (4 minutes of walking distance from my job) since 1932 and i always referred to it as the club for seniors. when i was younger i would see a lot of elderly people coming and going in and out of  its doors. unfortunately, the taxes in new jersey choked the life out of pals and they had to throw in the towel to make way for a CVS.  what’s puzzling is there’s another CVS within walking distance (for me) a little over a mile on eagle rock.  not sure why we need another CVS with another one being so close. pals will be missed.

  1. Val, before leaving this comment, I went over and read the link article you shared.

“Pals Cabin — a favorite haunt of Babe Ruth”

Wow! That’s amazing! This place sounds like it had a lot of wonderful history. And how sad that it’s being replaced by a CVS. It’s the same with Starbucks, you see one every corner.

    Great photo, girl!

    Have a super night!

ron, it should have been made a historic site and never demolished. it will be so weird not to see it there any more and a stupid CVS in its place. i might try to go back to get a better photo. i’ve seen others there photographing the demolition. not sure how CVS got past the public meeting to even do this.

    Yeah – that IS weird.

PS; By my house we have a CVS – and literally ACROSS the street – 50 yards away – is a Walgreens. WTF?

Speak on it!
